April 21, 2010 – The Jordan Downs Community Advisory Committee (JDCAC) held a community meeting to answer questions on topics such as on-site relocation, rent, safety, environment, and family resources. More than 250 residents and community members gathered in the Jordan Downs gymnasium to learn about the most recent information and the impact the redevelopment will have on families and the greater Watts community. The meeting was led by JDCAC members: Keyon Johnson, John Hernandez, Martha Fausto, and Richard Alford. As JDCAC members addressed the questions, they shared their experiences and insights about the project. The message expressed to the community highlighted the following: |
|
|
-
The Housing Authority has committed to one-for-one replacement of the existing public housing;
-
No residents will be moved off-site;
-
To live in the new community residents must remain in “good standing” by following their current lease agreement;
-
Before construction begins the factory site must be cleaned up; |
|
Other discussions included redevelopment design, services, and resources to be available in the community. HACLA staff including Director of Planning and Policy, John King, Director of Development Services, Larry Goins, Director of Housing Services, Sanford Riggs and Deputy Assistant Director Martin Peery were on hand to help answer questions and provide updates. |
