Maxine Waters Employment Preparation Center (EPC)
Maxine Waters Employment Preparation Center is a full-time training center operated by the Los Angeles Unified School District’s Division of Adult and Career Education. Job training, employability, and and academic education are the purposes of the school. Training programs range from 10 – 52 weeks in length and most are open for enrollment throughout the school year; however, a small fee is charged for some classes. Classes are offered Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM – 9:00 PM and Friday from 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Evening classes are from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM Monday through Friday.
An overview of the classes and training offered: GED and High School Graduation Preparation and Test, English as a Second Language for Youth, Health and Medicine Trainings, General Business Education, Engineering Technology, Industrial/ Construction/ Automotive Education, Electrical Powerline Courses, Culinary Training, and more. East Los Angeles Skills Center (ELASC)
The East Los Angeles Skills Center provides short-term vocational and technical trainings, job placement assistance, and CAHSEE preparation. Open enrollment to adults (18 years old or older) and youths; however, a small fee is charged for some classes. Those under 18 years old must have approval by parent/ legal guardian, home high school, and ELASC. Classes available include academic education, business, industrial, medical, information technology, child care worker, construction inspection, English as a Second Language, solar electricity, and more. International Union of Painters and Allied Trades: Job Corps
Requirements: 17 years old or older, interest in trade, available to attend trainings, and work with others, understand and carry written instructions (basic reading and math), and perform task safely and not endanger yourself and others. Wages: Fully trained workers can earn more than $21.00 depending upon employers and location. Hours: Usually full-time position of 40 hours per week.

Los Angeles Conservation Corps
Senator Barbara Boxer announced some exciting "green" news for Los Angeles youth. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is awarding $700,000 in funding to the Los Angeles Conservation Corps to provide job training for 160 students to learn the latest environmental technologies and prepare them for green jobs.
The trainees must be between the ages of 18-25 years old and reside in the Greater Los Angeles area will receive extensive training in: environmental technologies, hazardous waste health and safety, lead and asbestos abatement, refinery safety, forklift training, and general industry standards. Certifications will be offered. According to Senator Boxer, under previous training programs, people who completed the training had a hiring rate of about 86 percent with average salaries of $18 per hour.
